They don\u2019t always present like dramatic chest pain. Sometimes, they appear as fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath\u2014or, in too many cases, sudden cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone who has personally survived sudden cardiac arrest, I know that <strong>survival is not the norm<\/strong>. Most don\u2019t get a second chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83e\udec0 Why the Rise? Lifestyle, Awareness Gaps, and Gender Disparities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern life has brought stress, sedentary routines, and ultra-processed diets into everyday culture\u2014even in developed countries. But <strong>lack of awareness and misdiagnosis\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/easternstates.heart.org\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com#:~:text=Only%2044%25%20of%20women%20recognize%20that%20cardiovascular%20disease%20is%20their%20biggest%20health%20threat.\" title=\"\">especially in women<\/a>\u2014is a critical piece of this puzzle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women often present different symptoms than men. Too many are told their palpitations are just anxiety. Their fatigue is blamed on motherhood. Their breathlessness is dismissed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And too many are buried without a diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f The Reality I Witnessed: Families Who Lost Their Children<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a few weeks ago, I stood among <strong>grieving parents<\/strong> at the national CPR and AED Awareness Week March in Washington, D.C. Out of a large crowd, only <strong>four survivors<\/strong> of sudden cardiac arrest stood up. The rest? They were there in memory of loved ones\u2014<strong>many of them children\u2014who didn\u2019t survive.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because their hearts couldn\u2019t be restarted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because <strong>no one around them knew how to do CPR.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their stories broke me open. And they re-ignited the urgency of my mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udca1 What We\u00a0Can\u00a0Do: Life\u2019s Essential 8<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American Heart Association created a simple yet powerful lifestyle framework that can prevent many of these hidden killers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"577\" height=\"510\" src=\"https:\/\/heartofhopepodcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/LE8_image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208\" style=\"width:393px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/heartofhopepodcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/LE8_image-1.jpg 577w, https:\/\/heartofhopepodcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/LE8_image-1-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Life\u2019s Essential 8:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eat Better<\/strong> \u2013 more whole foods, less sugar and sodium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be More Active<\/strong> \u2013 at least 150 min\/week of moderate movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quit Tobacco<\/strong> \u2013 including vaping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get Healthy Sleep<\/strong> \u2013 7\u20139 hours, consistently<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manage Weight<\/strong> \u2013 especially visceral (abdominal) fat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Control Cholesterol<\/strong> \u2013 know your numbers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manage Blood Sugar<\/strong> \u2013 monitor and avoid spikes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manage Blood Pressure<\/strong> \u2013 aim for under 120\/80 mmHg<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t have to be perfect. But <strong>every small change adds up<\/strong> to protect your heart\u2014and your future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2764\ufe0f A Message of Hope, Not Fear<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ve come a long way, but <strong>the fight is not over<\/strong>. Especially for women. Especially for young people.
